Today was my first day of classes at Embassy CES, in the Gold Coast (Australia), and I’m already really happy! Great teachers and a friendly environment which makes you feel comfortable straight away.

Kia Ora! My name is Sandra Vaz. Working as a journalist in Madrid for 4 years after my bachelor made me realize it wasn't really the job I love doing and that really inspired me. Australia was a place which I was curious of, some kind of a dream. My first move was to get in contact with IEC and try to find out what the country could offer me and how I could use it for my education and career. The options were not great and that was the moment IEC helped me with my decision. New Zealand was going to be the place and Graphic Design my future expectations! In Journalism I use Photoshop and Quark for just a year, but I have always been very creative and doing my own sketches. It has been the best decision I´ve ever made and the coolest time of my life.
New Zealand is so far away but so unique at the same time, where everyone takes care of the environment, where the people are so graceful that they will help you with anything they can. I have been feeling like I´m at home although I was so far away! The Diploma on Graphic Design went really well. Every week we had to do projects which were based on real briefs and deadlines. By the end of the year I finished a quite professional Portfolio which I have been showing and promoting since I came back to Spain.
The Portfolio was marked by different companies that were in contact with the school, Media Design School. That was a huge advantage as a job could happen if they were interested in something I did on it. I've got an interview with The Fount one of those companies but no luck! Now I'm working on my website and doing freelance jobs such as Logos, branding, Magazine Layout..all around the world!
My attitude about life has changed since I'm back from New Zealand, more relaxed, valuing what really matters, be happy with what you do and have a good quality of life. I'll try to keep it that way in busy Europe but I'm sure that one day I'll be back to New Zealand and I won't mind staying for ever. Hope you find you place in this world as well!
